We wanted to start by introducing ourselves. Our family has Yorkshire roots (Easingwold, near York) and has been holidaying in Robin Hood’s Bay for more than a century. Early generations used to arrive by train from York, suitcases in hand, whatever the season. The Bay is woven into our family story – beach walks in winter, ice creams in summer, and countless memories in between. For us, it’s always been somewhere to return to, not just to visit.
Fernleigh is a beautiful Victorian villa that many will remember as the B&B run for years by Jane and Chris before closing its doors in early 2025. When the opportunity came up, we jumped at the chance to keep welcoming people to the Bay, this time as a short-term holiday let filled with character and warmth.
As we’ve been getting Fernleigh ready, what’s mattered most to us is creating something both local and a little bit special. We’ve worked with Yorkshire trades and makers, chosen local materials and soft furnishings, and tried to invest in the house in a way that honours its heritage – with a focus on supporting Yorkshire businesses and giving visitors a genuine feel for Yorkshire’s spirit and hospitality.
There’s still plenty to do, and we hope we haven’t disturbed our lovely neighbours too much over the past few weeks. We’re so excited to be part of the community – and if anyone has favourite local spots, stories, or craftspeople we should know about, we’d love to hear them (especially if you know a blacksmith who can help with a front door handle!).
